Radiolucent fixation rods & screws for patients with primary and metastatic spinal tumours

Guidance Recommendations
The Ministry of Health’s Medical Technology Advisory Committee has recommended radiolucent fixation rods and screws for spine stabilisation in patients with primary or metastatic spinal tumours, in line with the following criteria:
Patients who can benefit from post-operative high-dose high-precision beam therapy upon appropriate patient selection in whom:
Standardised assessment such as the neurological-oncological-mechanical systemic framework was used; and
Assessment was carried out by a multidisciplinary team, which should at least include but is not limited to:
a radiation oncologist;
a spine surgeon; and
an interventional radiologist or a diagnostic radiologist.
Funding status
Radiolucent fixation rods and screws are recommended for inclusion on the MOH Implant Subsidy List, in line with the abovementioned recommendations for models listed for subsidy only.
